Cathy Mudge
Director, Founder and Chair of Trustees-designate
Catherine Mudge is an experienced health professional, safeguarding campaigner, Founder, Director and Chair of Trustees-designate of Protect and Teach CIC, with a background spanning midwifery, nursing, education policy scrutiny and community leadership.
A Registered Midwife and Registered General Nurse with over three decades of clinical practice, Catherine provided prenatal, labour and postnatal care, worked independently in community settings alongside doctors, social workers and police, served as a Midwifery Sister, and acted as a clinical educator for student midwives.
She later developed a private acupuncture practice and held roles in pharmaceutical sales and advisory work, building strong skills in training, relationship management and evidence-based practice.
In recent years Catherine has focused on safeguarding children and protecting women’s single-sex spaces. She is a member of the Women’s Rights Network and the Clinical Advisory Network on Sex and Gender.
After identifying concerning school policies across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset, she secured national media coverage in The Telegraph and founded Protect and Teach, researching curricula, challenging third-party affinity groups in schools, corresponding with schools, trusts, universities, councils and the Church of England, and supporting parents and teachers. She has spoken at council meetings, addressed a House of Lords committee on single-sex care, and another women’s policy committee in house on LGBT+ groups in schools, hosted X Spaces and conferences, and contributed to government consultations.
Catherine previously served as union steward with the Royal College of Midwives, committee secretary of Exeter Beekeepers for ten years, and Regional Bee Inspector for the Animal and Plant Health Agency. She chaired a national conference on protecting British pollinators and brings practical experience of governance, volunteer coordination and working within public bodies.
