Jennifer Thetford-Kay

Jennifer Thetford-Kay is an experienced educator, safeguarding professional and care sector leader with over 25 years’ experience across health and social care, education, training and service improvement.
A qualified teacher with QTLS status, Jennifer has worked in a range of roles including Health and Social Care Lecturer, Course Co-ordinator, Advanced Practitioner, Registered Care Manager and safeguarding lead. Throughout her career she has supported children, young people, adults and vulnerable individuals, developing a strong understanding of the importance of safe, evidence-based practice and high-quality support.
Jennifer’s professional experience includes leading care services, preparing for and responding to regulatory inspections, developing improvement plans, training staff, mentoring learners and implementing policies designed to improve outcomes. She has extensive knowledge of safeguarding, mental capacity, equality, disability, health and social care legislation, and the challenges faced by individuals and families accessing support.
As Designated Safeguarding Lead for Protect and Teach CIC, Jennifer brings practical frontline experience together with her passion for ensuring that children and young people are protected, supported and given the opportunity to develop in safe educational environments.
Jennifer is also the founder of Aditus Potens AF™, where she researches and develops policy discussions around disability, welfare, accessibility and independent living in Britain today. Her work reflects her commitment to amplifying voices, challenging barriers and promoting informed decision-making.
Alongside her professional roles, Jennifer has supported community initiatives through volunteering; both in the UK and overseas, mentoring and educational projects. She is a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award leader and as a ‘Time to Think’ facilitator, has experience strengthening learning, reflective practice and personal development.
Jennifer believes that effective safeguarding is built on listening, understanding, accountability and practical action. She is committed to helping Protect and Teach deliver its aims through evidence-based research, responsible governance and a strong focus on protecting children while supporting positive educational outcomes.
