Protect and Teach has joined a coalition of organisations in signing a joint letter to the Charity Commission concerning Amnesty International UK’s recent publication, A Growing Threat: The Anti-Rights Movement in the UK.
The letter asks the Charity Commission to consider whether Amnesty International UK has acted consistently with its charitable objectives and regulatory obligations in publishing material that the signatories believe contains serious factual inaccuracies and defamatory statements about a number of organisations and individuals.
Protect and Teach signed the letter because we believe charities should uphold high standards of accuracy, fairness and accountability in their public communications. Robust public debate is essential in a democratic society, but it should be conducted responsibly and without the publication of material that may unfairly misrepresent individuals or organisations.
The joint letter was prepared collaboratively by the participating organisations. Protect and Teach is a signatory to the letter but was not its author.
